Reducing Risks - Pedicure Tools/Equipment

I understand that these topics are normally already covered if you search the internet but I don’t believe that it is covered in enough detail that you will fully understand that risks that unsanitized pedicure tools/equipment. I will also go into how the average person can take certain easy measures to mitigate unnecessary risks associated with pedicures.

Firstly, I’d like to go into the use of pedicure tools and equipment in nail salons which are shared amongst clients. This is the one of the highest risk areas in a nail salon for both the pedicurist and the client. The simple reason of this is that it is the tools and the equipment that is used to manipulate the nail and skin. The pedicure tools and equipment may also puncture the skin which leaves residue of blood along with all the rest of the bacteria, virus and fungus from on client’s feet after use. Imagine now that the same equipment which is coated with bacteria, virus and fungus from the previous client is now used on you to manipulate your skin and nails. Imagine again that your skin is accidentally punctured and the pathogens are introduced into your blood stream. I think you get the idea.

The most basic of precautions that must be taken when performing pedicures is to sanitize the tools or equipment used in pedicures when you are sharing tools and equipment. While most people do think that they are actually subjecting their tools to be sanitize, a lot of tools aren’t sufficiently sanitized before being used on other patience.

Below is a list of sanitization methods for different types of tools:

1). Sanitization of Metal Pedicure Tools/Equipment

2). Sanitization of Pedicure Filing Equipment

3). Sanitization of Pedicure Spas (Foot Baths)

4). Sanitization of Hands before Pedicures
