Pedicure Disinfectant - Quarternary Ammonium Products
The most common sort of quaternary ammonium compounds used as disinfectants benzalkonium chloride, a large group of related compounds that are considered to be milder disinfectants that are safe for use on humans. It is commonly used by the medical industry including the manicure and pedicure industry as a antiseptic wipe. It’s even used as a very effective spermicidal agent in condoms.
Quaternary ammonium compounds are one of the safest synthetic biocides known, and have a very long history of human use. As such in the manicure and pedicure purposes these disinfectants can be used as an antiseptic wipe where alcohol isn’t preferred. It doesn’t leave the skin dry and does not “sting” raw flesh as severely as alcohol thus making it ideal for the client servicing industry.
