Pedicure Disinfectant - Halogens
These types of disinfectants aren’t normally used in manicure or pedicure salons however are
sometimes used in conjunction with other disinfectants together to get a wide spectrum of disinfection.
The most common types of Halogens used for manicure and pedicure purposes are Hypochlorites and
Iodine. Hypochlorites (Sodium hypochlorite) often comes in the form of common household bleach which is very effective in-itself as a
disinfectant, the only problem with Hypochlorites are the foul smells created after its use and also its corrosive properties which reacts badly
with the human skin sometimes causing sores.
Iodine on the other hand is also widely used in manicure and pedicure salons for disinfecting
direct contact equipment such as nail/skin files or nail clippers which are the greatest health risk to the client. The problem with Iodine is
that it stains anything it disinfects with a red dye-like residue which is very hard to remove if not washed off immediately.
